Seda Ertugrul Williams

Seda Ertuğrul Williams was born in Malta and is of Turkish and Maltese descent. From an early age, Seda was very much curious and intrigued in creating and exploring new ways of communicating through a visual language. This curiosity led her to pursue her education in Malta, where she received her Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Fine Art from the MCAST Institute for the Creative Arts in 2018, and is currently reading for a Master of Fine Arts in Digital Arts at the University of Malta.

Seda’s work stems from a deep curiosity towards materials, shadows, space, forms, and structures, which either form within her thoughts or are shaped by her day-to-day surroundings, leading her to translate these reflections into a visual language through the visual arts.

Her focus tends to revolve around three-dimensional work, within which she utilises materials such as concrete and metal. This allows her to resonate with the tactility of these materials, resulting in her work being created intuitively. The material is not the sole element that she attaches importance to - space too plays a major role, for it defines the sculptures while creating balance.

As an artist, Seda strongly believes that one’s intuition should guide the creative process, underlining the significance of the creative process itself without knowing what the final result will look like until finished. In this way, she detaches from overthinking the process but rather, creates anticipation for the outcome, the unknown.
