Whilst creating this image in 2006, I was thinking about the Importance of being in solitude with the natural surroundings. I was also trying to create an image about the all powerful & mysterious nature of the land and the sea.
I always looked at Filfla and imagined her as a silent observer to all that has come to pass on the islands. She has the wisdom. She is untouchable. Forbidden. She cannot be altered, except by the forces of nature. The rock symbols a place of meditation. A place of worship.
This work was a part of a project from Malta Diaries. Published by Trolley Books in The UK. With text by Edward De Bono, the project was looking at the birth of a small nation, Its identity, and stories passed down from one generation to another.
